Privacy Policy

The Short Version

HeatLore does not use cookies for tracking. We do not collect personal data. We do not use Google Analytics. We do not sell, share, or trade your information with third parties. We built this site to respect your privacy by default, not as an afterthought.

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics, an open-source, privacy-focused analytics tool. Plausible does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, and does not track you across sites. It is fully compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and PECR without requiring a cookie consent banner.

What Plausible does collect:

  • Page views (which pages are visited and how often)
  • Referral source (where visitors come from - search engine, social media, direct link)
  • Country-level location (derived from IP address, which is never stored)
  • Device type and browser (in aggregate, not individually identifiable)

What Plausible does not collect:

  • Your IP address (it is processed for geolocation but never stored)
  • Any personal identifiers
  • Cross-site tracking data
  • Browsing history beyond this site

All analytics data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify individual visitors. You can view our public analytics dashboard - we have nothing to hide.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to the HeatLore newsletter, your email address is stored with our email service provider for the sole purpose of sending you the content you signed up for. We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with anyone.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email. When you unsubscribe, your email address is removed from our active list. We do not maintain suppression lists beyond what is technically required to honor your unsubscribe request.

Third-Party Trackers

We do not use any third-party trackers on this site. Specifically:

  • No Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, or any Google tracking scripts
  • No Facebook Pixel, Meta tracking, or social media tracking scripts
  • No advertising networks or retargeting pixels
  • No session recording tools (Hotjar, FullStory, etc.)
  • No fingerprinting scripts

Some articles on HeatLore contain affiliate links to third-party retailers. When you click an affiliate link and visit a partner site, that partner may set their own cookies on your browser according to their own privacy policy. These cookies are set by the partner site, not by HeatLore, and are subject to the partner’s privacy practices.

We have no control over and no access to cookies set by affiliate partner sites. We recommend reviewing the privacy policy of any site you visit through our links.

Data We Store

HeatLore does not operate user accounts, login systems, or databases that store personal information. We do not process payments directly - any transactions occur on our affiliate partners’ sites under their own privacy policies.

The only data we store is:

  • Newsletter email addresses (with our email service provider)
  • Aggregate analytics data (with Plausible, no personal identifiers)

Children’s Privacy

HeatLore does not knowingly collect any information from anyone under the age of 16. Our content is intended for adults.

Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will note the date of the update at the top of this page. We will not retroactively reduce your privacy protections without notice.
